Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff
Scott M. Mory, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff
Scott M. Mory, B.A. ’96, J.D. ’99, is senior vice president and chief of staff to President Ellen M. Granberg at the George Washington University. In this capacity, Mory is a critical strategic partner to the president and to the university’s executive leadership team. He provides leadership for presidential initiatives across the university; works throughout the university to promote a culture of innovation, transparency, and alignment around GW’s direction and priorities; oversees the coordination of the president’s major institutional leadership forums; leads the Office of the President; and advises university leaders regarding presidential and institutional strategic priorities.
Mory has held a variety of leadership positions in higher education prior to joining GW, most recently as vice president for university advancement at Carnegie Mellon University. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing the university’s advancement efforts and for building partnerships with the university’s philanthropic and volunteer communities. Under his leadership, the university’s most ambitious philanthropic campaign to date achieved its $2 billion goal more than 18 months ahead of schedule.
He also previously served as associate senior vice president and campaign director at the University of Southern California, managing the day-to-day activities of the Campaign for USC, a historic effort to raise $6 billion. Before his promotion to campaign director, Mory was USC’s associate senior vice president for alumni relations.
Mory’s position as GW senior vice president and chief of staff is the latest of many roles he has played at the university over more than 30 years. A double alumnus, Mory returned to his alma mater after several years of practicing law to lead GW’s alumni relations and annual giving programs, first as executive director of alumni programs and then as assistant vice president for alumni relations and annual giving. Mory was also an adjunct professor at GW Law and served on both the GW Board of Trustees and the GW Alumni Board of Directors.
In addition to his trustee service to GW, Mory is a member of the board of trustees of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and has been honored with CASE’s Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence. Scott is also a member of the advisory board of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
