If you Googled me, you’d find out about the books and articles I've written, the conferences I've produced, and the companies I've founded. But you wouldn’t learn that I:
- studied archaeology in Jerusalem
- spent two years as a ski bum in Telluride, Colorado
- taught writing in Siberia
- graduated from the Folklore Institute
- spent a summer conducting oral history interviews of former Studebaker workers
- took horseback riding lessons, swimming lessons, tennis lessons, flute lessons, saxophone lessons, guitar lessons, and tap dancing lessons
- earned the most extra credit ever awarded to a junior high student in a cooking class
- spent three days at a temp job proofreading the telephone book
- sold a pair of Levis jeans to Ralph Lauren
- coordinated one of the Clinton Inaugural Balls
- wrote speeches for high tech executives
- wake at the crack of dawn to write at my favorite Starbucks
- believe that the key to good writing is a cat by every computer
