Quantitative Methods II: Research Design and Data Analysis

Description:
This course is designed to:

Introduce students to educational research and to

Develop skill in the design of a research project.

This course will detail the research process from problem selection to conclusions and generalizations.

The course is conducted at a distance by means of regular interaction on the internet and streaming video. Regular and convenient access to a computer equipped with a modem, internet access, and e-mail capability is required for full participation in this course.

Objectives:
After completing this course, you should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

Understanding the foundation of educational research

Understanding the terminology of educational research

Ability to conduct a web (or library) search for resources

Ability to critique empirical research

Skill in conceptualizing a research problem

Skill in articulating a research question and related hypotheses

Knowledge of the characteristics of quantitative research designs

Knowledge of the characteristics of qualitative research designs

Ability to develop and critique sampling, selection, and administration strategies

Knowledge of published instruments and measures used in research

Skill in assessing the psychometric properties of instruments and measures used in research

Skill in developing a survey instrument and/or interview protocol

Knowledge of quantitative data analysis techniques

Skill in designing qualitative data collection activities

Knowledge of qualitative data analysis techniques

Skill in interpreting the results of data analyses

Ability to prepare a written research report

Understanding ethical standards governing the conduct of research involving human subjects

Prerequisites:
None currently indicated.
