Khorasan sickle-leaf design carpet fragment
Iran or Afghanistan, 17th century
More popular in the carpets of central Persia, the sickle-leaf pattern is rare in the carpets of Khorasan. The prominent curved, serrated white leaves in this carpet’s pattern give a sense of motion to an otherwise static arrangement of secondary floral motifs. This fragment represents about half of the original carpet’s width and is the only piece known to survive. It shares features of structure and color with other Khorasan carpets.
