On July 29, 2005, the regional director of the National Labor Relations Board issued a Complaint and Notice of Hearing based on the University's decision not to engage in collective bargaining with the Service Employees International Union, Local 500. As the University stated in its July 14, 2005, statement, the issuance of a Complaint "is the procedural mechanism for formal consideration of the University's position, initially by an NLRB Administrative Law Judge." The University has filed an Answer to the Complaint.
