The World in Pictures

First place went to Yonit Lax for “Lost Friend.” Lax studied through the Council on International Educational Exchange in Cape Town, South Africa.

GW students studying around the world submitted 100 entries for the first GW Office for Study Abroad Photo Contest. Entries poured in from students who spent time in countries as varied as Kenya, Fiji, Egypt, Morocco, Ireland, China, Argentina, Italy, Greece, Israel, Spain, New Zealand, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India.

With subjects ranging from sweeping landscapes to intimate candids of natives engaging in daily life, the photos reinforce how “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

The winning photos are shown here. Honorable Mention awards were given to six other students who submitted photos taken in Switzerland, The Netherlands, Costa Rica, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Brazil.

Second place went to Lindsay Hamlin for “Roadside Market in Siena.” Hamlin studied through the American Institute for Foreign Study in Florence, Italy.

Third place went to Stephen Rosenshein for “Berber Family Photo,” taken in Morocco. Rosenshein studied through CIEE in Alicante, Spain.
