Making Headlines

Three GW Law grads, all Washington D.C., attorneys who represent death row inmates, were featured in the July/August issue of the D.C. Bar’s Washington Lawyer magazine. The article, “Death Penalty Lawyers,” by Sean Groom, features Paul Khoury, JD ’69, a partner with Wiley, Rein & Fielding, along with Francis D. Carter, JD ’72, who has a solo practice, and Douglas G. Robinson, JD ’69, of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meaghers & Flom.

The story begins with Khoury, who appears on the magazine’s cover, and his struggle to keep a client alive in Virginia. The article describes Khoury pacing the floor in a hotel room as he awaits his client’s fate and also details his attempt to obtain clemency from the former Virginia Gov. George Allen.

Along with Khoury’s case are two other accounts described by Carter and Robinson on the unique legal environment of death row cases.

The article can be found online through the magazine’s Web site at www.dcbar.org/washingtonLawyer.
