Club Bali

Club Bali, located on 14th T in North West Washington DC, was opened in the 1940s during World War II by Benjamin Caldwell. Like many other clubs of its time, Club Bali had live shows. One of the most important parts of these shows was a fourteen piece orchestra in the bandstand behind the bar. Another important feature was the acts. Such performers as, Cab Calloway, Erol Garner, Johnny Hartman, Billie Holiday, Morgana King, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, and Charlie Ventura performed at Club Bali. Other highlights included tap dancers and chorus girls. Small groups were also brought in to entertain the large number of patrons. Aside from the entertainment, Club Bali also had another specialty. It specialized in Korean cuisine, prepared by George Kim. The cover charge during this time was five dollars.
