Count Basie and Bob Crosby Photographer William P. Gottlieb, who wrote a weekly jazz column for the Washington Post, arranged an after-hours jam session at the Howard Theater for the Basie and Crosby groups. Bob Crosby, the brother of Bing Crosby, was appearing at a theater with white clientele, The Earle. Besides Gottlieb, the audience for this session included, among others, Ahmet and Neshua Ertegun who were the sons of the Turkish ambassador and who later founded Atlantic Records. Neshua Ertegun has served as Atlantic's chair. © William P. GottliebIra and Leonore S. Gershwin Fund Collection Music Division, Library of Congress Click the image for a full-sized version. |
