After the Big Parade, 1919. 1978. 40x48.

This painting represents the great welcome home parade celebration in D.C. that commemorated the end of World War I. The Nation's Capital postponed its celebration until Woodrow Wilson returned from the Peace Conference at Versailles. The artist's father-in-law worked in the U.S. Treasury and took pictures of the parade which he assembled into an album that he later sent to his sister in Massachusetts. One photo from this series showed the dirigible C-3 which flew so low that it frightened the crowd. Wright's painting shows the crowds streaming into the street at the end of the event.
