The Drummer. 1968. 7 3/8x4 3/4. Engraving.

Inspired by the songs of Gustav Mahler in Das Knaben Wunderhorn, this print depicts a drummer, who aroused his comrades from the dead to go and rout the enemy. Like "The Encounter" (1966) etching, this print was based on the war photos by Mathew Brady and Alexander Gardiner. The model for this print was a student from Wright's painting class at the Corcoran School in Washington, DC. Signed and numbered by the artist in pencil. Edition of 75.
