Stanley William Hayter
The eminent English printmaker and founder of the Atelier 17 in Paris.

"I worked with Hayter (known to all his students as "Bill") at the Atelier 17, from 1961 until 1964. While I was teaching at the Corcoran, in the late '60's, before coming to the George Washington University, I invited some of my students to meet Hayter in my F street studio. He happened to be in town to give a lecture at the NCFA. We spent several hours with him as he spoke about the great artists whom he had taught: Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Marc Chagall, Krishna Reddy, and others. We also discussed with him his love of etching and engraving and his development of innovative print techniques."
