Suzanne in Winter. 1978. 40x32.

"A loving portrait of Suzanne, my daughter, who has just come in from the cold of a rare, snowy day ay Christmas time. The painting is in emulation of Vermeer with a particular emphasis on the pattern of sunlight on the snow outside which serves as a counterpoint to the sunlight on the oriental rug. In Van Eyck manner, the room is refllected in the silver bowl atop the china closet. The concept of design is that of a travelling vanishing point along the station line in the manner of aVan Dyck Portrait. This painting is derived from a collection of separate images so as to convey an optical impression of nature both inside and out. Contrary to a photographic interpretation which operates from a fixed f-stop."
