Owings Cliffs on a Snowy Afternoon. 1992. 30x60.



Owings Cliffs is a little hillside community which is part of Fairhaven, Maryland on the Herring Bay Inlet of the Chesapeake. Snowy days suitable for sleigh riding are something of a rarety these days which makes them highly cherished when they do happen. All of the children in this painting are real and known to the entire community. The artist has a summer-weekend, brick cottage which can be seen in the center right-hand portion of the painting. Ben Muell is climbing the hill with his red, plastic sled. Peter Kelly is struggling up the hill and Jake Hines is making his way down, while Coco the black retriever and salty the white retriever are enjoying their friends on this beautiful day.
