As a resident of western Pennsylvania, Thomas Scott was a strong voice for the needs of the West, more effective even than John Brown of Kentucky or John Sevier of that part of North Carolina which would enter the Union in 1796 as Tennessee. Scott concludes with a reference to the thesis, "Westward the course of empire takes its way." |
