December 2007 Expanded Celebration Recognizes Service Excellence
More than 450 GW employees attended the 2007 Service Excellence Celebration awards ceremony in the Marvin Center Grand Ballroom on Nov. 1. The ceremony marked the end of two weeks of service excellence events and activities on GW’s Foggy Bottom, Virginia, and Mount Vernon campuses. Jennifer Seile, co-chair of the service excellence planning committee, says this year’s celebration was expanded to two weeks to include a two-day conference; department and office open houses; and tours of the Virginia and Mount Vernon campuses. “Two weeks allowed us more time to fully appreciate all of the work that GW employees do on a day-to-day basis and during the course of the year,” says Seile. Other events included a series of coffee and conversations across campus and a brown bag lunch and walking tour. Seile says the committee received 460 service excellence award nominations, more than double last year’s total. (For a complete list of award winners, see sidebar. For a complete list of nominees, visit http://service.gwu. edu/celebration.) Pleased with the success of all the events and the awards ceremony, Seile says, “So many people at GW do such great things, it’s good to have a forum that recognizes their work, whether it’s an awards ceremony, a certificate, or a colorful poster reminding people to say thank you. GW employees are actively looking to recognize the work that others do.”
