Summertime Labor

GW sophomore and Washington, DC, native Gloria Rigor spent this summer as an intern with the US Department of Labor. Rigor was a member of the department’s highly competitive internship program that selects 50 interns each summer from several hundred applicants.

Rigor was assigned to the Executive Office of the Secretariat, the agency responsible for all written correspondence addressed to the department. Her daily duties included handling documents that are addressed to Secretary of Labor Chao, including letters from constituents, other cabinet departments, senators and the President. Rigor and other interns also participate in lectures from key White House officials and tour prominent national sites.

“It’s gratifying to see the federal government in action,” said Rigor. “ I feel very privileged to be here.”
