Akbar Montaser, Columbian Professor of Chemistry,
CCAS, recently presented three invited lectures at major research institutes
and universities in Germany and Switzerland: Direct Injections
Edge in Plasma Mass Spectrometry: The Next Diet for a Small Planet,
presented June 7 at the Central Department of Analytical Chemistry, Research
Centre Juelich; Direct and Indirect Sample Introduction in Plasma
Source Mass Spectrometry: The Light Bulb Comes On, presented June
8 at the Department of Chemistry, University of Konstanz, Germany; and
Scaling the Myth in Direct and Indirect Sample Introduction in Plasma
Mass Spectrometry, presented June 10 at the Department of Chemistry,
ETHZ, Zurich, Switzerland.
Lawrence Singleton, associate
professor of accountancy, GWSB, spoke at the Annual Conference of the
Society for Human Resource Management June 2627 in New Orleans,
LA. Singleton also addressed members of the National Investor Relations
Institute and the Public Relations Society of America about recent accounting
and reporting events and their impact for investor relations officers,
June 29, 2004, in Philadelphia, PA.
Appointments:
Kelly Bosma, executive assistant in the Office
of Alumni Programs, was appointed to the City of Takoma Park Commission
on Landlord Tenant Affairs.
Awards:
Akos Vertes, professor of chemistry, CCAS,
received the Academy Award Fellowship from the Royal Flemish Academy of
Belgium for Science and the Arts in Brussels, Belgium.
Maria Cecilia Zea, professor
of psychology, CCAS, received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution
award by American Psychology Associations Division 44 (Society for
the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Issues) at this summers
APA convention.
Publications:
William Frawley, dean and professor of anthropology
and psychology, CCAS, published Why I Am (Still) a Sociocomputationalist
and Why You Should Be, Too! in Anuario de psicologia, v.
34 (2003), pp. 490503. This paper is part of a continuing discussion
of the Spanish translation of his book Vygotsky and Cognitive Science.
