GW’s Global Women’s Institute Honors Champions of Justice
The George Washington University’s Global Women's Institute hosted an event honoring courageous women’s rights defenders in celebration of its 10th anniversary. U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the first Indian-American woman to serve in the House of Representatives, received one of three inaugural GWI Champions for Justice awards. Other awardees were Brisa De Angulo, a Bolivian activist against sexual violence and founder of A Breeze of Hope, and Ana Lucía Álvarez, who accepted the award on behalf of Nicaraguan women political prisoners. GWI strives to advance gender equality through research, education and action to bring about change.

STORIES FROM OUR COMMUNITY
Support GW Giving Day: April 4-5, 2023
GW Giving Day is an annual 24-hour fundraising campaign designed to increase philanthropic support for the next generation of GW students. By focusing on student scholarships, student support and schools and units, your gift helps students accomplish their Only at GW goals.
After receiving thousands of feedback from the George Washington University community, GW has released the four final moniker options: Ambassadors, Blue Fog, Revolutionaries and Sentinels. As part of the ongoing process, GW launched “Moniker Madness,” a series of engagement activities that will allow the GW community to provide feedback. The “Try It on for Size” round runs through the end of April 2023.
"Thomas Buergenthal visited my Holocaust class @GWtweets today and I’ll never forget it. It was the first time in my life hearing from a Holocaust survivor directly. Research through text is one thing. Hearing directly from the person is another."
