Talk Show Host Larry King to Award GW Student Scholarships

CNN talk show host and author Larry King will recognize the first Undergraduate Larry King Scholars and the current Larry King Graduate Scholars in an April 16 ceremony at the School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) at 12:15 pm.

In 1999, King committed $1 million to grant scholarships to assist graduate and undergraduate SMPA students from disadvantaged backgrounds. King’s gift is part of GW’s ongoing Centuries Campaign, a University-wide program to secure resources for support of endowment, current programs, equipment, and facilities.

Celebrating his 45th year in broadcasting in 2002, CNN’s Larry King is the host of the network’s “Larry King Live,” the first worldwide phone-in television talk show and the network’s highest-rated program. The Emmy Award-winning King and author of 12 books has been dubbed “the most remarkable talk-show host on TV ever” by TV Guide and “master of the mike” by Time magazine. With more than 40,000 interviews to his credit, he is one of the most esteemed personalities in the industry. King was awarded an honorary degree from GW in 1996.
