George Washington Women’s Studies Practicum

Professor Cynthia Deitch

Each spring, the Women’s Studies program offers a nationally recognized program of practical experience for our graduate and select undergraduate students.  The program is designed to train students to make public policy in women’s interests.  Objectives include:

·       To provide students with an understanding of the roles of diverse public and private organizations in policy-making processes

·       To give interested students the experience and training to obtain career positions shaping public policy on issues affecting women’s lives

For ORGANIZATIONS seeking interns:

Graduate students and selected undergraduate seniors participate in a field placement in a women’s advocacy and/or policy-making organization for the Spring semester.  We ask the organization to provide a substantive, professional level, policy-related assignment for the student (where “policy” may be very broadly defined).  This placement is for a minimum of 120 hours (some organizations may require more hours).  Student stipends paid by the organization are encouraged but not required.
