Ntozake Shange, author of "for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf", will be reading from her new book "If I Can Cook/You Know God Can" Vertigo Books, 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW, on Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. Free.

"Breaking the Silence", an open reading for survivors of sexual violence Lammas Bookstore, 1607 17th Street, NW, on Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by Lammas and the D.C. Rape Crisis Center. Women may bring writings or speak about their experiences. Women only.

Alison Bechdel, creator of the comic series "Dykes to Watch Out For", will discuss and sign her new book. Lammas Bookstore, 1607 17th Street, NW, on Sunday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
