Looking Ahead

Here are a few of the main events on the calendar for the
Women’s Studies Program in the upcoming future.

 

 

May 2: The Women’s Studies Fourth Annual Alumni and Awards Luncheon

This year’s luncheon will include presentations by two current graduate students; Jen Sleboda will tell us about her work on Malaysian feminism and Anna Jeno will bring us up to date on the implementation of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. In addition, the following recipients will receive their awards:

 

  • Women’s Studies Endowment Award: Adriana Suriano
  • Service to the Community of Women Award: Adriana Suriano
  • Graduate Prize for Feminist Scholarship: Lynne McArthur
  • Prize for and Outstanding Contribution by an Undergraduate: Elizabeth Stevens
  • Nicole Paul Endowed Prize in Women’s Studies: Britt Herstad

 

May 16: Women’s Studies Graduation Brunch

The Women’s Studies Program invites you to a brunch to celebrate our graduates and to meet their families and friends. May 16 at 10:45 am~12:30 pm in the foyer outside Funger 506. This event is directly before the Commencement ceremony in the Smith Center so students and faculty will be wearing their robes—what a photo opportunity! Hope to see you there.

 

June 12-13: Women’s Progress: Perspectives on the Past, Blueprint for the Future

The Fifth Women’s Policy Research Conference, organized by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) and co-sponsored with GW, will address women’s economic and social progress (or lack thereof). The conference will include panel sessions on such topics as Poverty, Employment, Health, Family, Democracy, and International Issues.
