A Room of Our Own

Notes From the Director

We're only half way through this year and as you can see from the reports and stories, we have been very busy - the major in Women's Studies, the five year BA/MA, the joint program with the law School, a highly successful "Women and Aging" conference, and an enthusiastic audience for Deborah Tannen - but the good news doesn't stop there. With any luck we will be moving into the little "White House" on the corner of I and 22nd St. in Aug. 2001. Walk past the site and imagine this as the Women's Studies House.

Our suite in Funger has served us well but we have outgrown the space. Our library has spilled over into the hallways and many books remain in boxes in our store room. Our Executive Aide's office is the hallway. Our files are in the hallways. We need secure space. We rely on Public Policy for meeting rooms. We need our own seminar room. We are already doubling up in our offices and next year a new faculty member - a joint appointment with Psychology - will be joining us. I have agreed to accept the Latin and North American editorship of Women's Studies International Forum. More space needed. The architects are at work on plans to accommodate these needs in our new space.

Happy Holidays and see you all in the New Year when we will be focused on recruiting another cohort of graduates for our various programs.
