Major Developments in in the GW Women's Studies Program

Major approved
An undergraduate Women's Studies major was approved this semester. The major is a 30 credit interdiciplinary degree that allows students to incorporate women's standpoints across the curriculum.

The major offers courses from across the disciplines of religion, literature, anthropology, history, and many others. The flexibility of the major allows students to tailor it to their specific interest within gender issues. A detailed listing and explanation of the requirements is available at the women's studies website.

Five-year Joint M.A./B.A Programs
Two new degree programs have been approved to help highly qualified and motivated students with an interest in Women's Studies complete both an M.A. and a B.A. in a five-year period. Separately, these two degree programs would take a full-time student six years to complete.

The programs are: for more policy-oriented students, a five-year B.A. in Women's Studies/M.A. in Public Policy with a concentration in Women's Studies and for students interested in a discipline, a five-year B.A./M.A. in Women's Studies .

Women and Law Program
A joint degree program between the GW law school and the Women's Studies program was established in March of 2000.

All students must complete their first year of coursework in the law school. The joint agreement between the two schools allows for certain classes to be counted toward the fulfillment of requirements for both degrees, thus allowing the student to complete the joint LL.M. programs in two years and the joint J.D. programs in four.
Combination Women's Studies and law degrees are set up for both J.D. and LL.M. degrees.
