Our Mission
The
mission of The George Washington University Wertlieb
Educational Institute for Long term Care Management
is to facilitate a national and international dialogue
regarding long term care management and research.
In 1996, The George Washington University officially
inaugurated the Wertlieb Educational Institute for
Long Term Care Management. The Institute was inspired
and initially supported by long term care administrator
Harvey Wertlieb and his wife, Linda, who envisioned
providing life-long education for dynamic, results-oriented
leaders. Within the context of The George Washington
University, the institute can provide the academic
integrity and practical background that will prepare
students to work in any setting. University faculty
and an advisory committee comprised of long term
care leaders guide the Institute in activities that
will not only benefit GW students and industry organizations,
but society as well.
Leaders in LTC Education
Today, exceptional depth and a unique focus on management
skills characterize the Institute’s long term
care program. Through a broad array of educational
offerings, renowned faculty and industry experts
update students with the most current information
on best practices in long term care. Students benefit
from the insights of administrators and clinicians,
as well as academic resources from GW’s schools
of Medicine, Law, and Business and Public Management.
Thus, the environment, rich with ideas, fosters
learning and collaboration between academics and
practitioners.

In the Heart of Washington,
DC
Here, students, faculty, and other professionals
come together to share insights and develop strategies
for the future. More important, students’
learning experiences are enriched through a practice-oriented
program that connects them to the full resources
of the nation’s capital--the crossroads of
the public and private sectors. Here, students enjoy
easy access to national and international resources,
and remain at the heart of decisions that affect
the future of health care. Instructors and guest
lecturers are drawn from major health and government
organizations, such as the American College of Health
Care Administrators, the American Health Care Association,
the American Association of Homes and Services for
the Aging, the Alzheimer’s Association, and
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
