The university, as an educational institution exempt from taxation under the Internal Revenue Code, is prohibited from directly or indirectly engaging in any political campaign activity on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. This prohibition extends to faculty and staff in their capacity as university employees.
Faulty and staff are free to engage in poltical activities in their individual capacities, but must take care that their conduct is in no way attributed to the Universtiy and that such personal activities do not occur on university time or with university resources (such as email, phone, fax, copiers, etc.). Accordingly, faculty and staff who engage in poltical activities in their individual capacities are responsible for adhering to the rules and procedures set forth in the University's Political Activity Policy.
