How to Determine Your Version of Symantec Software

Important Message Regarding Symantec Software:

Symantec version 9 will not be supported by Symantec effective April 1. Computers running Windows XP and Windows 2000 with version 9 or earlier of Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security software will no longer get virus updates as of 3/31/2009. Computers using Symantec version 9 or earlier will be vulnerable to any new viruses that are released after 3/31. These steps will help to determine if your version of Symantec Software will need to be upgraded or not.

STEP 1:

Determine whether you are running Symantec AntiVirus only or Firewall. To do this click on 'Start', go to 'All Programs', then 'Symantec Client Security' and view your choices. If you see only Symantec Antivirus then you do NOT have the Symantec Firewall installed.

(If you see 'Symantec Firewall' listed, then you have the Symantec Firewall installed in addition to Symantec Antias well.) Please make note of this and continue to step 2.

STEP 2:

Determine the version of Symantec AntiVirus you are running. To do this click on 'Start', go to 'All Programs', then 'Symantec Client Security' and double click on 'Symantec AntiVirus'. You should now a window appear entitled 'Symantec AntiVirus'. Examine the 'Program versions' section and make note of the version next to Program. Please continue to step 3.

STEP 3:

If you have version 9 or earlier of Symantec AntiVirus AND you have Symantec Firewall installed, STOP and contact the ISS Help Desk or your LSP for assistance. Do NOT attempt to upgrade this client on your own as it will break your firewall.

If you have version 9 or earlier of Symantec AntiVirus ONLY click here and continue to follow the removal, download and install instructions.

If you have version 10.1 or later of Symantec AntiVirus--with or without Symantec Firewall installed--you can find the latest version by clicking here. This is an optional upgrade.
