Securing Your Computer

It is important to maintain your computer up-to-date with the latest patches, fixes, service packs and virus definitions (of your anti-virus software). This prevents computer viruses and worms from spreading from your computer and denies hackers the potential opportunity to damage or steal data from your computer. Data theft and IT secuirty issues are an all to common story seen in the media these days. Many of our systems at the University are possibly susceptible to such intrusions. Systems such as Banner and EAS carrying the weight of our sensitive information. With this information compromised, it could mean the loss of individual and University data leading to misuse by an outside party. Many of the staff and faculty download this secure data to their workstations and thus are required to use the following steps to make safe our valuable assets. While no measures are 100% effective, we believe following the steps below will go a long way into helping you secure your computer and the information contained on it. |
