1.0 "When I try to Compose, Reply or Forward a message, the new message window does not appear. Nothing happens."

Bug Details:

In Colonial Mail testing, it was discovered that Norton Internet Security 2003, created by Symantec, has a pop-up blocker that interferes with Colonial Mail. When you select Compose, Reply or Forward in Colonial Mail, Norton Internet Security 2003 incorrectly interprets the Compose window to be a pop-up ad and blocks it. This problem was determined to affect Norton Internet Security 2003 and has been corrected in the latest versions of the Symantec software.

Work Around Solution:

Double-Click on the "Norton Internet Security" Icon in your system tray (bottom right-hand corner of your screen). The Norton configuration window will appear (Figure 1 - below)

1. Per image below, click on the "Status and Settings" option .

2. Click on the "Ad Blocking" option.

3. Click on the "Configure" option at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

4. Within the "Ad Blocking" screen (Figure 2), remove the check-mark next to "Turn on Popup Window Blocking".

5. Click on "OK" to exit the "Ad Blocking" screen.

6. Click on the "X" to exit the Norton Security configuration screen.

7. You should now be able to create new, reply to and forward messages within Colonial Mail.

2.0 "When I click on the "back" button I am logged out of my Colonial Mail account."

The "back" and "forward" buttons are not intended for use while using Colonial Mail. Please only use the hyperlinks within the web-browser page itself, while you navigate through your mailbox. For security purposes, clicking on the "back" button will log you out of your account.

3.0 "When I access my mailbox through Outlook I receive an error message: Outlook.exe has generated an error and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. Outlook will no longer allow me to access my mailbox."

Bug Details:

When using Outlook 2000 we have found that once one has accessed his/her mailbox through the Colonial Mail web interface, Outlook 2000 will sometimes generate the error above.

Solution:

We have found that installing the latest Microsoft Office patches will resolve the problem. We have also found that upgrading to MS Outlook XP (a.k.a. Outlook 2002) will resolve the problem.

To retrieve the latest Microsoft Patch (currently MS Office 2000 SP3), simply go the Microsoft Office Update website:

http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/

Click on the "Check for Office Updates" link, and your computer will be scanned by Microsoft for all available updates and patches your computer needs.

If you are running the Windows 2000 operating system with the MS Office 2000 application suite, scroll down through the list of available patches and locate the Microsoft Office 2000 SP3 (service pack 3). Place a check mark next to this Service Pack, and then click on the "Start Installation" button. Follow the instructions that follow to complete the installation.

To upgrade your current version of Outlook, to Outlook XP, contact your local support representative.

Bug Details:

We have found that when a very long message is sent from an outside Outlook Web Access account (OWA) to a Colonial Mail account, and subsequently the same message is forwarded from Colonial Mail to any other account, the original message body text is converted into illegible symbols.

This bug is being investigated by our mail engineers and should be addressed in future releases of Colonial Mail.

Solution / Work Around:

If you experience this issue at all, simply copy the original message text and paste into a word editor of your choice. Save the file and attach it to an e-mail message. The attachment will be delivered to its recipients successfully.

Bug List

Below is a list of bugs we hope to fix in the near future.

Item # Details Topic Issue
1 "Safari" currently will not allow certain Colonial Mail functions (replying and forwarding).Safari / MAC support Bug
2 IE 5.2 for Mac OS has been reported to not function properly when attempting to reply to an e-mail in Colonial Mail. The reply window never generates.IE 5.2 for Mac Bug
3 "Outlook.exe Error" with Outlook 2000 (no service packs installed). See details in sections above.Outlook 2000 Bug
4 When forwarding a very long message which originates from an Outlook Web Access account, text is converted into Windings and illegible symbols. See details in sections above.Forwarding / OWA Bug
5

When saving a draft message, sometimes Colonial Mail will generate an unspecified "Error 84"; it sends the draft message window back behind the inbox screen. (Internet Explorer 6).

Drafts

Known Bug

In most cases, the draft will actually still save, regardless of the error.

6 Colonial Mail allows the use of special characters when creating new folders. Example: creation of "this/that" folder, creates a high level folder called "this" and a subfolder called "that". "This" is unusable, while "That" is usable. Refrain from using special characters when creating folders.Folder Creation Bug
7 AOL Web Browser Generates Error, forcing user to use desktop browser, outside of AOL.AOL Browser Error Bug
8 When replying to messages the default starting point for cursor is at bottom of original message - requiring mouse click at top.IE 5.2 for MAC Bug
9

When saving drafts into folders other than the "Drafts" folder, the "From:" column within the folder displays additional "To:" recipients, creating a confusing list to the user.

Saving Drafts

Bug. The way around this is to save your draft messages to your Drafts folder only.

Here is how: Log into Colonial Mail, and click on Options > Settings. Under settings, find "Message Drafts", and from the drop down menu, set "Keep message drafts in" to "Drafts".

10 When a user has Norton Internet Personal Security package 2003 installed, creating a new message, replying and forwarding to an existing message is not allowed, since the pop-up blocker blocks the new message window. Norton Internet Personal Security 2003 Bug
11 Immediately or very soon after I log into Colonial Mail, I receive a "Session Timed Out" error message and am taken back to the login screen. If I login again, the problem happens again. ISP Known issue with some ISPs.

Your problem may be alleviated by browsing to http://cmail.gwu.edu/alternate/ This alternate login page was created specifically to avoid the "Session Timed Out" problem some users were seeing due to proxy servers used by their home ISP or off-campus office. The alternate page will present you with two login options - A or B. You can choose either one, and enter your normal Colonial Mail username and password. Note that when you logout, you will be taken back to the main http://cmail.gwu.edu page. If you wish to log back in, please browse back to http://cmail.gwu.edu/alternate."
12 Address Book entries viewed in the main list, are sorted in a case-INsensitive manner. When the entries are viewed from the compose window (as part of the recipient selection process) they are sorted in a case-sensitive manner. Address Book This is causing some people to believe that not all of their address book entries are showing in the compose window (the lower-case entries are moved to the end of the list). We hope to fix this in the next major fix/update of the Colonial Mail system.
