A Message from the Director

Welcome to the University Honors Program (UHP) at The George Washington University. The students and faculty who belong to the honors program community share a commitment to a vibrant, rigorous education. The honors program curriculum is designed to enhance and augment the coursework a student does in his or her major; built around a series of small pro-seminars, many interdisciplinary in nature, honors program courses provide students with intense intellectual challenge and encourage critical engagement with complex issues. Every semester UHP students have the opportunity to take courses taught by the University Professors of GWU, a highly select group comprised of accomplished scholars and excellent teachers representing a wide range of disciplines.

The Honors Program community extends well beyond the classroom. We regularly offer an array of activities--from local hikes to student / faculty dinners--to nurture our community. Our popular professors-on-the-town program encourages students and faculty to engage together in events on campus and in Washington, DC. We continually seek out service projects to put our talents and energy to good use. Our exceptionally talented and highly motivated students routinely have great success in competing for major fellowships and awards, both within GWU and nationally.

The University Honors Program offers an education unlike any other. I encourage you to explore our website and to contact us with any questions. We are eager to hear from you!
