MPA Association

The MPA Association (MPAA) was founded in 1977 by students who recognized the value of promoting social and professional activities for GW MPA students. Since that time, the MPA Association has been the primary student organization for public administration students at GW.

MPAA sponsors and promotes a variety of events including:

  • Professional Workshops and Career Services
The MPA Association works with the Trachtenberg Career Center to create opportunities for professional development and employment. Alumni, professors, and other selected speakers share their experience and expertise in public administration careers and current issues through organized venues.
  • The NCAC/ASPA Student Conference on Public Administration
This annual spring conference is run by and for graduate students in public administration in the Washington area at local universities on a rotating basis.
  • Social Events
Happy hours, new student orientations, outdoor sports, and other events help promote the social character of the department and its students. The MPA Association coordinates diverse events including the annual student-faculty retreat, trips to the DC United and DC Nationals games, Kennedy Center group venues, and the annual Fall Ball.
  • Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities
The MPA Association works closely with students in the Public Service Academy at the Anacostia High School in the District of Columbia, to mentor and tutor students enrolled in the Academy. MPAA coordinates monthly volunteer activities through local DC organizations such as: Hands on DC, The Ronald McDonald House, Help the Homeless, and DC Central Kitchen.
