International Studies
The MPP and the MPA focus on domestic policy in the core coursework. But, a growing number of students are pursuing a field of study with an international component. With advising, students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities to broaden their horizons while at GW.
Internationally-focused Courses
GW offers an abundance of courses with an international focus through its many graduate degree programs:
Study Abroad Opportunities
Students have several options for pursuing study abroad opportunities. With advisor approval students may:
Undertake a study abroad opportunity offered by the TSPPPA.
The School periodically offers a summer study abroad course; interested students should look for information on this opportunity early in the spring semester (ahead of registration for summer courses).
Undertake a study abroad opportunity through another school within GW.
The Elliott School, among others, offers study abroad opportunities to students. Students should contact the individual schools; ESIA's study abroad page.
Undertake a study abroad opportunity through another university or program.
Students can pursue courses outside GW. Note that you cannot use the Consortium Registration Form for Consortium members. Instead, students should work with their advisor to submit a petition, prior to registering for the study abroad course(s), to the CCAS Dean's Office for review. This preauthorization is typically granted. The student then signs up for the course(s), completes the course(s), and submits a Transfer of Credit form (with final transcript) to officially transfer the coursework into their degree program.
(If undertaken during the fall or spring semester, additional steps to maintain registration status are needed. Ask the Program Coordinator.
GW's Study Abroad Office, while focused on undergraduate students, is a great resource for universities and other organizations offering study abroad programs.
