Technical Director/Assistant Professor, Design – Washington, DC
THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY invites applications for Technical Director/Assistant Professor of Design (full-time, renewable contract, non-tenure accruing) for the Department of Theatre and Dance beginning September 1, 2008.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all of the technical aspects of the production season, teaching 3-4 credit hours/semester, and designing one production each season. The candidate will directly manage a staff assistant technical director, work-study and lab students.
Basic Qualifications: MFA concentrating in scenic and/or lighting design or technical production; 3 or more years of experience in technical management; demonstrated ability to organize and execute a production season; competency in computer-based design applications (CAD, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.); functional knowledge of current production methods and materials.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience; experience managing students; previous experience in both theatre and dance production.

Located three blocks from the Kennedy Center, GW is at the center of the cultural life of Washington, DC. The Greater Washington area is home to more than seventy-five professional theatres, art galleries, libraries and museums. Our faculty maintain close relationships with many of these arts organizations developing creative work and/or connecting our students to the professional performing arts world.
The Department of Theatre and Dance is housed within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Undergraduate students can receive a BA in Theatre, Dance, or Dramatic literature (an interdisciplinary program in English and Theatre). Students can also minor in Theatre or Dance. Our program has approximately sixty-five majors, and an additional eighty minors. While our primary focus is on undergraduates, we do have a strong three-year MFA program in Design. On campus, we produce six mainstage productions each year: two dance concerts, four plays.
