New York News
Cat Cacho (GW Dance Major): Ms. Cacho is getting her masters degree in New York City and continues to work for BAM.
Russ Feder (B.A. Theatre): Mr. Feder appeared in Wait Until Dark October 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, a play performed at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island, NY. He remarks, “I'm proud of the show and pleased with the work I do in it. It's all about three con-men (including me) sneaking into a blind woman's house in order to steak a doll filled with heroin. It's a classic thriller, guaranteed to make you jump out of your seat (after you see the show, rent the Audrey Hepburn movie. Just don't watch the movie WITHOUT seeing the show. That'd be missing the point).”
Colleen Hooper: “I am very excited that ‘The Roosters’ will be performing at this year's BAXten Awards on Thursday, November 1st, at the Prospect Park Picnic House in Brooklyn. We will be performing at the beginning of the ceremony at 8 PM.
Technically, the RSVP deadline for this great event has passed, but you can call 718-832-0018 for a last-minute ticket. This is an award ceremony that honors Artists, Arts Educators and Arts Administrators, and there is a great list of honorees this year- you can visit BAX's website for more details: http://www.bax.org/events.html” Ms. Hooper also sends word of an August performance event: WARNING: HEAT INDEX, a night of interactive video, dance, and aerobics on Saturday August 18th @ The Bushwick Starr, located at 207 Starr St. Brooklyn, NY. Created by Pat Resing, the event will feature performances by Kate Garroway, Colleen Hooper, The Roosters, and other special guests.
J.J. Kovacevich (B.A. Theatre and Dance): “Until Sept. 23rd, I performed in a dance/theatre/multimedia work by Troika Ranch. This run of preview performances is the culmination of an intense two-month initial creation process and received a great review by Jowitt in the Village Voice!”
Cody Lindquist (B.A. Theatre): “My friends Corey, Brian, and I have started a new blog called ‘Unique New York’ dedicated to all the weird stuff that happens in the Big Apple. Please check out our first video at www.uniqueny.blogspot.com Also, if you have any unique New York stories, feel free to send them along to: newyorkisfunny@gmail.com. If we like it, we might post it OR make a video out of it!”
Brent Stansell: “I’m done with one year of grad school (getting my MFA in Dramaturgy at Brooklyn College), and I have one more to go. I’ve had a successful year despite a lot of changes and internal drama in my department and have managed to complete a lot of course work. I’m very excited about the coming year. I got a teaching fellowship at my school which will help cover this year’s tuition. I’ll be teaching Introduction to Acting to university non-theatre-majors (very excited to already be a professor!). I’m writing a solo performance piece this semester, and I’ll be doing production dramaturgy on Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg in February. My thesis project will be a collaborative theatre piece with queer artists that I’m facilitating and to which I’m contributing. I’ll have a few courses… and I’m desperately searching for a fall internship – I was being rather selective. This summer I’ve been waiting tables full-time (at Bobby Flay’s MESA Grill) and I’ve been trying to get a jump start on my projects for next year. I spent a week in Provincetown, MA on vacation and had a great time relaxing and laying in the sun. I feel a little more settled here, but still miss DC. New York is beginning to feel familiar, if not quite home.”
