Frontiers of Statistical, Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS)

With partial support from the Army Research Office, this Symposium is being hosted by the Institute for Reliability and Risk Analysis (IRRA) in the Department of Statistics, the George Washington University. Our objective is to emphasize the potential contributions of synergistic role of these disciplines to other areas such as biological, physical, environmental, and social sciences. This year's symposium will focus on the contributions of probability and statistics to reliability and performance of complex systems, vision, linguistics, finance, and representation and management of uncertainty.

• Professor Stuart Geman ,Department of Applied Mathematics, Brown University : Probability and Statistics in computational vision , linguistics and learning.

• Professor C.R.Rao, Department of Statistics, Penn State University: Numerical range, and applications of anti-eigen/anti-singular values in statistics and physics

• Professor Jayaram Sethuraman, Department of Statistics, Florida State University/Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India :Stochastic inference, non-parametric estimation, reliability and repair models for complex systems

• Professor Steven Shreve, Department of Mathematics, Carnegie Mellon University: Stochastic calculus for finance, computational finance

• Professor Lotfi Zadeh, Division of Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley: A generalized theory of uncertainty
