Undergraduate

The focus of the undergraduate program in speech language pathology is in providing students with an in-depth knowledge of the normal aspects of communication. The department thus offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Speech and Hearing Science. The required major courses along with the general curriculum requirements are designed to provide a strong liberal arts education that will be the foundation for future learning about human communication. Majors are required to take eleven courses within the department and three courses from related areas. The courses within the department include information of the developmental, physiological, cognitive, pragmatic, and multicultural aspects of human communication. Specific information about these courses can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin. In addition to these courses, students must also complete 25 clinical observation hours as part of their degree. Additionally undergraduate students can act as aides in our Speech and Hearing Clinic and are encouraged to participate in the research projects of the faculty and staff. Some of our undergraduate students who qualify have completed undergraduate honors theses and have had prestigious scholarships including the Enosian scholarship. The department also offers a minor in Speech and Hearing Science that requires 15 credit hours. Please see the Undergraduate Bulletin for further details.
