M.A. Program for those with Non-Speech Undergraduate Degrees

The Department of Speech and Hearing Science's Re-Entry Program has been specially designed for persons wishing to enter the profession of Speech-Language Pathology, but whose undergraduate major was in another field. Recent graduates of the program have included persons whose undergraduate majors were in Art, Biology, Education, English, French, German, History, Linguistics, Physiology, Pre-Med, Psychology and Zoology. Completion of the Re-entry Program, including the master's degree, usually requires 33 months of full-time study.

Students wishing to participate in the Re-Entry Program apply to the Master's degree program. Those persons with appropriate credentials may be granted a "conditional admission" to the graduate program. The requirement of this conditional admission is completion of the eight pre-requisite courses with a 3.0 grade in each of the re-entry classes. Upon completion of the prerequisite courses, Re-Entry students begin a regular program of graduate study. Completion of this program, including the master's degree, requires seven semesters of full-time study. To facilitate the desire of many Re-entry students to work during their re-entry year, the prerequisite courses are all scheduled to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Any questions about admission into the Re-Entry program can be directed to Professor Michael Bamdad (mbamdad@gwu.edu), the Chair of Admissions.
