Welcome

The most human of all attributes is the ability to communicate. The discipline of speech language pathology seeks to understand this ability, the consequences of impairments in the ability to communicate and the rehabilitation of those individuals who have a communication impairment. The discipline thus encompasses the developmental, physiological, cognitive, neurological, and pragmatic aspects of human communication.

The Department of Speech and Hearing Science's mission includes educating our students while promoting a culture of research in speech and hearing and providing the best services possible to our clients. The graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology is considered among the finest in the country, and was recently ranked 38th out of 230 programs by U.S. News and World Report.
