Prospective Students
10–day Mini-courses are open to academically motivated students currently completing grades 9, 10, and 11. Mini-courses provide an intensive program of experiential education and academic exploration. These nongraded, noncredit seminars are highly interactive, promoting opportunities for academic investigation, applied learning, and contextual examination of topics through visits to course-related sites. Course enrollments are limited. Admission priority is given to early applicants.
6-Week courses offer a unique opportunity for high school juniors to enroll in challenging courses and study subjects not offered in high school, while previewing an authentic college experience. All students enroll in the Writing Seminar for Summer Scholars, a course that focuses on developing analytic writing and critical thinking skills that are essential to a successful college career. Summer Scholars also enroll in an elective course of choice taken with undergraduate students and taught by GW's distinguished faculty. Academic exploration, college life, and admission seminars expose students to the communities and resources of a major university. Studying at one of the nation's premier universities allows Summer Scholars access to the university's academic and recreational facilities, and the learning experience extends beyond the classroom to include opportunities for intellectual and cultural exploration of Washington, DC. In addition, meetings with admissions counselors and tour of other colleges and universities in the Washington, DC area are scheduled according to the interests of Summer Scholars students.
