Admitted Students FAQ's

I need to pay my $500 deposit. What payment options are there?
The University accepts payment by check only. Arrangements for installment payments can be made though the Summer Scholars office, although payment in full is required before the program start date.

I'm making my travel arrangements. When may I plan to be on campus?
Mini-Course students are required to arrive June 22for hall check-in and orientation, and will check out on July 2. Students in the 6-Week Pre-College Program must arrive July 6for orientation and must be out of the dorms by 4 pm on August 15. For both the Mini-Course and pre-college programs, early arrivals can be arranged; please contact the Summer Scholars office to make such arrangements.

I'm flying to Washington, DC, and need to know how to get to campus. Will someone pick me up at the airport?
No. However, reliable transportation options are available at all area airports and contact information will be provided in pre-arrival packets. The Summer Scholars staff is happy to assist students in making arrangements for arrival and departure.

I'm taking a cab from the airport to campus. Where should I tell the cab to take me?
Have the cab driver take you to 2100 Foxhall Road, NW, or the Mount Vernon Campus of The George Washington University. He or she should be familiar with either.

Once in DC, can I visit places in the city on my own?
6-Week program students will have time to explore the city independently or with friends. Students are required to sign in and out, and must return to campus for required programs and before curfew. However, students in the Mini-Courses are NOT permitted to travel independently of planned excursions.

May I choose my roommate?
No. We try to make the Summer Scholars experience as much like a first-year college experience as possible, and part of that experience is learning to live with new people. However, we will use your roommate survey to try and match you with someone you can live with.

May I know my roommate's name and contact information before Summer Scholars begins?
No. Housing assignments are being made and changed right up until the time students arrive at GW. You will find out who your roommate is at orientation.

What should I bring to GW?
For a complete list of what to bring, please see either Everything You Need to Know about the Summer Scholars Mini-Courses (link to pdf) OR Everything You Need to Know about the Summer Scholars 6-Week program (link to pdf), depending on your program. These same information sheets are included in the enrollment packet you received in the mail.
