September 18: "Going for Broke: The Fiscal Future After the Economic Crisis"

The School of Media and Public Affairs partnered with The Trachtenberg School for Public Policy and Public Administration to sponsor a workshop on the country's fiscal future. Special guests included professors, journalists, advocates, and experts in the field of economics, as well as four former directors of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The day's keynote speaker was Doug Holtz-Eakin, former director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

SMPA proudly welcomed back Jaime Zapata (M.A., 2008), the deputy assistant secretary in the Office of Public Affairs at the Department of Labor. Since completing his studies at SMPA, Jaime has pursued a public and distinguished career in Washington, having served as Communications Director at the House Committee on Small Business and as the first Hispanic Reading Clerk for the House of Representatives. Jaime took part in the closing panel, "The Role of the Media in the Fiscal Future".

The workshop took place Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Jack Morton Auditorium in the Media and Public Affairs Building.
