The School of Media and Public Affairs is a dynamic, interdisciplinary program based in the heart of Washington, D.C., where media, public affairs and politics intersect.

At SMPA our undergraduate and graduate programs combine elements of strategic communication, journalism and political communication with contemporary issues in domestic and international politics.

In January 2001, the School of Media and Public Affairs moved into its current residence, a $27-million state-of-the-art facility located at the corner of 21st and H Streets. For an interactive map of the Foggy Bottom campus please click here. For detailed directions to our location, please click here.

The Media and Public Affairs building features a 258-seat auditorium designed to attract media events, a flash studio where faculty can be interviewed and beamed to television shows such as ABC's Good Morning America without leaving Washington, D.C., and the Luther W. Brady Art Gallery. To reserve the auditorium, please call (202) 994-7736.

In addition, the building is equipped with a fiber optic network, wireless Internet access, and a teleconferencing classroom to enhance GW's distance learning programs. The latest technology can be found in the student media center that is equipped for print, broadcast, and online media projects. And SMPA students benefit from the Richard Eaton Broadcast Suite which houses a fully-functional television studio and control room as well as audio and editing laboratories. The Media and Public Affairs Building has been the home of several television programs including CNN's Crossfire and The CW Network's The Inner Loop public affairs program, the latter of which is produced entirely by SMPA students. The MPA building also houses several related undergraduate and graduate programs including, public policy, telecommunications, political management, and public administration.
