Application Requirements

Applications are considered on a rolling basis, so it is to your advantage to apply early. If you have any questions regarding the application form, the admissions process, or the Semester In Washington in general, please contact us at 202-994-7787 or 1-866-870-2644.

Please include the following when applying:

1. Application form. (Located online)

2. Current resume. (Located online)

3. Essay (pick one of two options, also located online)
Please complete one of the following essays in 300 words or less:

A. Why do you want to attend the Semester In Washington Journalism Program?

B. What does journalism mean to you today and what role does it play in your life?

4. Letter of recommendation
Only one letter of academic recommendation is required; however, you may submit more
recommendations. Your professor may send a letter or email the reference to siwj@gwu.edu

5. Transcripts
You must submit official transcripts from every institution of higher education which you have attended or currently attend. If you have attended several institutions, usage of a photocopy of the transcript form is acceptable.

6. Application fee
The application fee is $65.  This fee is non-refundable and cannot be applied towards tuition. Please make your check or money order payable to The George Washington University. Please do not send cash.

7. Personal Interview. Once we have all of your pieces we will be in touch to see up a time to talk over the phone. Don't stress though, this is informal and helps us get to know you better.
