Join National Endowment for Democracy Fellow and journalist, Mr. Jayaprakash Tissainayagam for a discussion on the various challenges facing democracy in post-war Sri Lanka.
Mr. Jayaprakash Tissainayagam is a Reagan Fascell Democracy Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy. He is a seasoned journalist, editor, and analyst covering ethnic conflicts, socio-political issues, and the peace process in Sri Lanka. In 2009, he was sentenced to twenty years' imprisonment for criticizing the Sri Lankan government's handling of its war against the Tamil Tigers and released two years later, following an international outcry. He was named an Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience in 2008 and received the Reporters without Borders' Peter Mackler Award for Ethical and Courageous Journalism in 2009.
