Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

sigur center image

The Sigur Center offers full graduate fellowships (tuition plus living
stipend) for intensive study of an East Asian language during the academic year and summer. These FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowships are awarded by the Department of Education to the best programs in area studies after a rigorous national competition.

GWU is the only school in the Washington area to offer FLAS fellowships for the study of East Asian languages and area studies. U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are GW graduate students in good standing currently enrolled in a program that combines modern foreign language training with international studies are eligible to apply.
