Undergraduate Program

The major in Asian Studies is a broad liberal arts degree incorporating the politics, history, economics, and cultures of Asia. Although the University is known for its strengths in modern and contemporary Asia, students are encouraged to take advantage of courses on pre-modern Asia as well. Three Asian languages are regularly taught at George Washington University: Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Students can take advantage of the numerous Asian cultural resources available in the D.C. Metro area. The Smithsonian Institution's Freer and Sackler Galleries are but two of the many Asia-related cultural institutions that Washington offers. For students who are interested, there is also a wealth of internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. This is especially true for those interested in Asian Studies or International Affairs, as the U.S. capital boasts a wealth of NGO's and think-tanks in addition to the myriad governmental offices and institutions located in Washington.
