Sigur Center Grant for Chinese Language Study in Taiwan or China
Each summer the Sigur Center offers a Chinese language study grant for George Washington University BA and MA candidates. Language study must be conducted in Taiwan or China, and applicants need to confirm acceptance into a language program before leaving.
The application must also include a budget.
This grant is open to all GW BA and MA students regardless of nationality.

Sigur Center Grant for Korean Language Study in Korea
The Sigur Center is pleased to offer a Korean language study grant for George Washington University BA and MA candidates. All language study must be conducted in Korea, and applicants need to confirm acceptance into a language program before leaving.
The application must also include a budget.
This grant is open to all GW BA and MA students regardless of nationality.

Sigur Center Summer Grant for East Asian Field Research
The Sigur Center offers summer field research grants in East Asia for George Washington University graduate students (M.A. or Ph.D.) interested in Asian affairs. These awards provide funding for travel, living, and research expenses while doing fieldwork in an East Asian country.
This grant is open to all GW MA and PhD students regardless of nationality.
* Those selected for these grants must submit a 15-page research and travel report upon completion of their project. Application should include project proposal, budget, list of faculty references, and GW transcripts.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
The Sigur Center offers full graduate fellowships (tuition plus living stipend) for intensive study of an East Asian language during the academic year and summer. FLAS fellowships are awarded by the Department of Education to the best programs in area studies after a rigorous national competition.
GWU is the only school in the Washington area to offer FLAS fellowships for the study of East Asian languages and area studies. U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are GW graduate students in good standing currently enrolled in a program that combines modern foreign language training with international studies are eligible to apply.
