Minutes from January 2000 were approved.
Columbia got NEH grant to microfilm Slavic pamphlets. Kansas has applied
for a 500k grant to NEH, will find out next year if they have received it.
Web page: Schaffner reported that he is working on linking different
consortia websites because they're all working on similar preservation
projects.
Slanda reported that she sends materials to the in-house preservation
department for reformatting, and this is supported with internal Harvard
money; 15 boxes of materials were just sent and filmed.
Andy Spencer reported that he would like to present his project next
summer in San Francisco, and that he would like to meet jointly with
Electronic Resources Committee about the Indiana grant to digitize the
Soviet National Bibliography, 1956-1975. Originals are being scanned, will
be done end of 2000. Then they will be marked into XML to be searchable on
the Internet. A test model should be done at the end of 2000.
Bob Strauss from Bookkeeper gave an extensive presentation to the
Committee on preservation microfilming issues, focusing on Slavic and
Eastern European materials.
Baird encouraged cooperative preservation projects to lower costs.
Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Beth Feinberg
