Newsletter Committee Minutes
June 15, 2002

Present: Terri Miller (Michigan State), Mariya Barash (Wayne State), Tatiana Barr (Florida), Diana Brooking (Washington), Jackie Byrd (Indiana), Marta Deyrup (Seton Hall), Inna Gudanets (Stanford), Soobum Kim (Stanford), Sandra Levy (Chicago), Brad Schaffner (Kansas), Leena Siegelbaum (Harvard), Kay Sinnema (Duke), Lydia Wasylenko (Syracuse), Cathy Zeljak (George Washington)

Minutes: The minutes of the January 2002 meeting were approved.

Financial report: Terri Miller distributed the financial report, as of June, 2002. How to use a budget surplus was discussed. Terri tried to use some of it by having a color cover for #18, but there were technology problems. Other ideas included for the surplus included:

  • Insert or separate publication for SEES's 40th anniversary in 2003
  • Toronto anniversary event
Review of #18: Terri reported that most sections of the newsletter were submitted early, and there were no problems reported by those who submitted sections.

Planning for #19:

  • Terri reported that another poster from the same collection featured on #18 will be used for the cover for #19
  • Section assignments for #19 were discussed. The resignation of Patricia Thurston from the Newsletter Committee resulted in some reassignments
  • A Canadian library will be featured in #19, since the Annual Conference will be in Toronto
  • It was suggested that information on trips made by Slavic librarians be included in the Newsletter
  • Ways to commemorate the 40th anniversary of SEES were discussed
